Michelle Kelrick

Board Member

After years of working in the education sector, Michelle has taken a step back to take care of her kids full time. Prior to having children, Michelle was a classroom teacher and a nonprofit leader. Following her graduation from the University of Pennsylvania (with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and minors in Music and Spanish), Michelle joined New York Teaching Fellows program. Michelle taught fourth grade at a traditional district school in the South Bronx for several years, while simultaneously receiving her Masters in Education from Fordham University. Upon moving back home to Los Angeles, Michelle taught English Language Arts at the Gabriella Charter School, a dance-themed charter school. Michelle then worked for a nonprofit called Educators 4 Excellence (E4E), organizing teachers across Los Angeles to advocate for greater teacher voice in policy-making decisions. Michelle stayed connected to the Gabriella Charter School, joining the Board of Directors in 2014. During her tenure on the board, Michelle has served as Board Secretary, Governance Committee Chair, Academic Excellence Committee Chair, and is currently the Board Chair. In her role as Board Chair, Michelle helped lead the search process for a new Executive Director, and is now supporting the Executive Director in her first year in the role.

Michelle and her husband Scott are the proud parents of three kids. Michelle is also an experienced pianist and composer. She is passionate about helping others, and a strong believer in the transformative and therapeutic power of the arts.
